KH Palm Beach - Search Engine Service
Submission Report 2 updated March 16,
2004
Hi Heidi,
This
e-mail message is a search engine service
submission update for your e-commerce site.
Here is what this report will tell you. Then,
dig as deep as wish and you will understand what I believe
should be your strategy and goals for improving your ability
to be found on the Internet.
The website has been properly meta
tagged including title, desciption and keyword entries
for all pages on the website.
Your domain name (url) has been
successfully submitted to a list of search engine service
companies.
Several search engine companies have responded
that we have successfully submitted your search criteria to
them.
These same search engine companies
have also acknowledged that there search spiders will crawl
your site in the near future to update their
listings.
For
example: Google has responded that we have
successfully submitted.(see Google response in detailed report
below)
This report is the latest of four
submissions that we have done since our first submission two
weeks ago.
Our subsequent submissions have
been to update the search criteria to further optimize in
anticipation of ongoing spider crawls from the various
companies.
We will probably submit once more before
delaying our next submission, so as not to jeopardize
our compatibility with submission requirement.
Submitting too often can be bad.
Since this is your first time, now
is a good time to understand well this concept so that
future reports are more meaningful to evaluating our
progress over time.
We will study reports like this one
and more detailed ones many times. We beleive that
along with referrals from your existing customers
and leads from shows that this will be a very important
project for your sales to increase.
The
following is a report from our latest submission of your
domain name (url) www.kimmieandheididesigns.com to the Search Engine Service community
as of today March 16, 2004. This list of search engine
and submission results is a database report from our
submission service. We use this report, among
others, to acknowledge the receipt of our latest
submission of search criteria optimization for your
website.
If you
briefly scan the report,
you will notice that among all the search engine services, there are 13 on the list
marked as "failed". All the rest show a
status of submitted and that there is a results report
available for the acknowledged submission to the named
service.
When we queried the results information report from
our service for Google, we received the following
information. We have cut and paste the html text from
the page below as an example of what other positive results
reports look like from other search engine service
companies.
This is the html
text extracted from the Google Results Query we
performed today:
Since this is our fourth
time submitting, the number of successful
submissions has increased. For instance, #5
on the list, Bertha, is still showing as
failed. I have yet to determine as to
whether or not they no longer exist or just
haven't accepted our submission yet. This is
not as important as Google, MSN, Inktomi, My
Prowler, etc.. Some of the more obscure
search engine service companies have responded and
some have not.
As of week two, Yahoo has
still not accepted our submission. They
probably will, and we will submit again within a
week. It is entirely possible that they have
accepted but just haven't gotten an e-mail back
out yet that confirms this. They just dumped
Google as their search algorythm provider and
relaunched their service. That could be the
reason that they are backlogged with
submissions. Your site will probably pop up
in a month or so.
It is important to note
that successful submission does not guarantee
indexing. These services acknowledge that
their search spiders will crawl our site but not
that they will guarantee indexing under any
search criteria. Ranking well is up to us,
unless you choose to buy a guaranteed index
listing and or a sponsored placement with
various search companies. More on this
later. Overall, with the most popular search
companies, we have successfully submitted and will
eventually show in their listings. Google
states that this process can take up to 8 weeks.
We are at week two, so be patient because it could
take another month and half before we can start
tweeking search criteria again and hopefully rank
higher with the various
services.
Review the following
report and I'll wrap it up
below.

A few words about frequent submission. It
is not good to resubmit your search criteria too often
to the various services. They all have similar
policies regarding frequent submission. If we
update the meta tags on our site every few days that is
okay, but if we submit and request a crawl every other
day, they consider that spamming and eventually we will
get booted from their crawl service. I feel
comfortable with submitting once more (for a total of 5
in the last two weeks) and then letting it sit for a
month or two before resubmitting. Usually, you
have to be a repeat offender to get booted, but it is
more important for us to get crawled regularly and
evaluate the results than it is to update constantly
until then.
In regard to the level of service you have
purchased. The $219 you spent has gone to the cost
of submitting to our submission service and the time
spent creating your search criteria. Some of the
search engine services are offering inexpensive
pay-per-click programs and this should be our next
step. Sponsored listings and guaranteed indexing
costs vary and we should discuss how much of this pie
you wish to slice.
We should meet and discuss what level of effort
you would like me to apply to your search engine
optimization. I would like to discuss low-cost
pay-per-click options that exist with other companies
and the possibility of affiliate programs that are
market specific.
I can answer your questions about any aspect of
this project.
